“Seriously?” She made them for him all the time; he’d never made one for her before.

He nodded. “Mm-hmm. So what do you say we clear the house and hightail it outta here?”

“I say it’s the best idea I’ve heard in weeks.”

Five minutes later, with all the last-minute hugs applied, the final farewells and cautions and reassurances exchanged, they settled into their seats. Ethan started up the truck and handed his plugged-in, open phone to Victoria. As he pulled out of the service drive and on to the last section of the main driveway, she looked at the title of the playlist he’d pulled up.

“Super Kinky XXX Don’t Show Audrey. Nice. She’ll never suspect.”

“I knew you’d like it. You can press Play whenever you want to start; it’s already cued up. So, I noticed the wall hanging isn’t quite . . . finished. Or is it supposed to be that way at the bottom? I don’t know these things sometimes.”

“Oh. Well.” Victoria flushed, looking down at the phone and running a fingertip around the Home button a few times before sliding her fingers quickly up and down the page to keep it from locking again. “It isn’t finished, that’s true. But it’s current.”

“And the space at the bottom?”

She shifted one hand over to his thigh, squeezing through the denim for a moment. “It’s up to us how we fill it. But thanks to you, you know what we have?”

He flicked his signal on, looking left to right before pulling out onto the main road cautiously. “What?”

She chuckled. How quickly they forgot. “Time.”

“Oh, that. Yeah, we do. I’m looking forward to it.”

  Victoria was, too.

They were finally on the actual road, heading to the highway that would take them east. Into their future together. She pressed the Start button on the playlist and laughed with delight when she heard the first song spill out into the truck cab, all mellow, husky voice and subtle background.

  “Ella!”

  Ethan grinned. “Of course.”

He picked up speed and they both started to sing along to “You Do Something to Me . . .”
